CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
**AIHA Nominating Committee Now Accepting Nominations
for Executive Council Officer Positions**

Dear AIHA Members:
The Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations and self-nominations for the following five officer positions:
1. President
2. Vice-President
3. Secretary
4. Treasurer
5. Curator

To qualify for these positions, the candidate must have been a member of AIHA for two years. The term for which officers shall be elected is two years.

If you would like to nominate someone, please check with the person first to make sure that he or she would like to run for the position. All nominations and self-nominations should be sent to the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Teresa Fiore, by Nov. 28th, 2010, at: fiorete@montclair.edu

Please attach a short bio (no more than 100 words) in which you highlight your main accomplishments in the field of Italian American Studies, your involvement with AIHA, and your projected contribution as AIHA officer.

Paper ballots with the bios of candidates will be sent by Dec. 1st (bios will be available on the AIHA web site as well). Ballots must be returned via the provided SAS envelope by Dec. 31st, 2010 (postmark date). The new officers will take office in January.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Southern Exposures: Locations and Relocations of Italian Culture,
co-edited by Alan J. Gravano and Ilaria Serra

Due date: December 31, 2010

We are now accepting submissions for a volume of selected papers from the 42th annual AIHA conference: Southern Exposures: Locations and Relocations of Italian Culture, held in Baton Rouge last October. Although the conference included valuable papers on the themes of Italian immigration and ethnicity in the American South, we will also consider papers on related topics of cultural cross-fertilization in politics, fiction, religious customs, music (jazz), identity construction or the transplantation of Italian culture. All papers will be peer reviewed by an editorial advisory committee.

AIHA's Statement on the Arizona Law Concerning Ethnic Studies
The American Italian Historical Association* deplores HB2281 which restricts the teaching of ethnic studies courses in the State of Arizona's public school system. Ethnic studies courses belong to the education of all Americans. These courses allow students to explore the diversity of cultures in the United States. They promote self awareness and awareness of others. Ethnic studies courses prepare students for the responsibilities of citizenship in the contemporary world.

The MLA Italian American Literature Discussion Group seeks submissions for the 2011 MLA Conference in Los Angeles, 6–9 January 2011. There are two panels this year. The first panel has guaranteed acceptance:

Humor in Italian American Literature
Inviting papers that address linguistic, situational, parodic, ironic, sarcastic, or satiric humor to define, negotiate, or critique Italian American ethnicity. 500-word abstracts and brief CV by 15 Mar. to JoAnne Ruvoli (joanneruvoli@sbcglobal.net)

The second cfp is for a proposed collaborative panel with MELUS and will have to be accepted for inclusion by the MLA:
